| CTRC investigators also have the ability to conduct patient studies at the Hillman Cancer Center under the auspices of the Montefiore CTRC. The UPCI-CTRC, located within the Hillman Cancer Center, is an outpatient unit which is open Monday thru Friday. In some instances, investigators may choose to utilize the MUH-CTRC for the outpatient visits due to the complexity or length of the study visit. There are also studies that require inpatient and outpatient visits and involve both sites. The studies at the UPCI-CTRC are facilitated by the Nurse Clinician, Pamela Sisco, MSN, RN, OCN. The Hillman Cancer Center serves as the hub of UPMC's cancer-based care, with regional UPMC Cancer Center facilities and hospital-based programs as spokes. With this system in place, UPMC Cancer Centers provides the nearly six million western Pennsylvania residents unparalleled access to the latest resources in cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment services. These services are urgently needed in a region whose population is aging and facing a growing cancer burden. The Hillman Cancer Center and nearby administrative offices provide nearly 450,000 square feet of space to house UPMC Cancer Centers' and UPCI's pioneering programs in cancer care, research, detection, diagnosis, education, prevention and community outreach. By connecting the ambulatory pavilion to the UPCI Research Pavilion, the Hillman Cancer Center creates an important synergy between its rapidly growing basic research and clinical activities. Between the two pavilions is a three-story atrium lobby that offers a warm welcome to patients, visitors, physicians, scientists and staff.
